Bears Football Jerseys, Jeff Tedford has had a solid run at Cal, posting a 79-48 record in 10 seasons. However, they have been treading water lately, and they have settled in around the .500 mark the past three years after going 7-6 in 2011 with a 4-5 mark in PAC-12 play. The Bears lost in the Holiday Bowl against Texas 21-10 on what could have been their eighth win.
Offense
The Bears ranked eighth in the PAC-12 in both scoring and total offense last season with 28.3 points and 401.5 yards per game. The unit started out slow in conference play but found their footing down the stretch.
Quarterback Zach Maynard finally posted up respectable numbers Bears Football Jerseys by the second half of the season. He completed 57% of his passes for 2,990 yards with 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, but he needs to take the offense to another level by becoming more efficient.
With three starters returning along the line and first-team All-PAC-12 receiver Keenan Allen back, Maynard has an opportunity to put up better numbers in 2012.
Allen, who caught 98 passes for 1,343 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore last year, will certainly get plenty of attention from the opposition. With that in mind, another receiver must step up. Incoming freshman Bryce Treggs will have the opportunity to do just that.
As long as Isi Sofele continues to play like he did when he rushed for 1,322 yards and 10 scores last season the running game will continue to be in good hands in 2012.
Defense
The stop unit led the PAC-12 in total defense in 2011 allowing only 332.9 yards/game. The team has led the league in that category for each of the past two seasons, but they likely won\'t be able to three-peat.
The loss of PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year Mychal Kendrick and D.J. Holt at linebacker is primarily the reason of the expected drop off. They also lost starting defensive ends Trevor Guyton and Ernest Owusu and starting safeties Sean Cattouse and D.J. Campbell. Those are a lot of talent departing for the defensive side of the ball.
While Cal should be fine at outside linebacker with Chris McCain and Cecil Whiteside, the two key inside spots don\'t figure to be as good. Robert Mullins and Nick Forbes will likely take the two spots and while Mullins has experience as a backup, Bears Football Jerseys Forbes will essentially be learning on the job.
Inside backer could be a weakness, but the Bears should once again remain solid on the interior with nose tackle Aaron Tipoti and on the outside with cornerbacks Steve Williams and Marc Anthony.
PAC-12 North Prediction: 4th Place
The Bears started out strong last year going 3-0 at the start of their 2011 campaign, but they\'ll likely have a tougher go at it to start 2012. Nevada and Southern Utah are two teams they can handle at home, but they will likely drop their next two at Ohio State and USC.
The Bears will face Washington State, Utah and Oregon State on the road as well. While they easily handled those schools at home last year, it will have a far more difficult time sweeping them again on the road, where they were 2-4 in 2011.
The Bears face Arizona State, UCLA, Stanford, Washington and Oregon all at home in conference play. All those home games are winnable except maybe for the game against Oregon. Stanford and Washington are likely the two games that Bears Football Jerseys will go down to the wire.
